Artist highlight

Yhu Kira

Yhu Kira is a Singer, Painter, and designer from Gabon, living between France and Belgium.

What inspires you to create and what is your creative process?

“I'm inspired by dimensions, I want each of my arts to be an open door to different dimensions. I don't really have a process, I let my spirits guide me and show me different sides of me that even I did not know exist, it really inspires me the most.”

As someone who makes use of multiple media in your art, can you elaborate a little bit on how they speak to you? What moves you to make music, and is it the same desire that moves you to paint?

“Today all the medium I use are an extension of each other, for example my paintings, inspire me to do fashion, or use my music to highlight my paintings to explain my message. Today, all medium comes from the same thing, the power of manifestation. I create what I want to become compared to before where I was not sure of where I was going.”

Are there any recurring themes/issues you like to address within your work?

“Creating art full time is an investment, its is complicated to do it by yourself, and as a black man in Europe doors are hard to open. Investment hard to get and I have to think twice more. Being unique in my genre also is not always an advantage when applying for opportunities.”

Did you have any queer role models? If so, who?

“Honestly I don't, except if you consider Grace Jones and Rihanna to be queer role models. I'm a big fan of old french songs (Gainsbourg), Congolese music, K pop, Caribbean music (Kassav, Princess lover) also.. ! Aside of that I strongly believe in myself, and obsessed with creating the futur.”

Are there upcoming events/appearances that you would like to bring attention to?

“The end of the year is full of surprises. I invite you all to follow me to see by yourself.”
