Kevin Couchman

Kevin Couchman is a Brussels-based photographer and art director specialised in portrait and fashion photography. After studying Photography at the university of Westminster in London and assisting different fashion photographers, he started his own career as a freelance photographer in Brussels. His dark and poetic aesthetic is inspired by 90’s fashion magazines, and involves a mix of different techniques such as collages, scans, and digital and analog photography.

Working closely with the LGBTQI+ community and fashion designers, he aims at bringing visibility to his community by including them in his commercial work.

Inspiration

As a photographer, Kevin takes great inspiration from women: “I've always been an admirer of female beauty and photography was a way for me to get to work with them and create something beautiful together.”

Helmut Newton is one of his biggest examples. “I find the work of Helmut Newton so powerful. It is an ode to strong women”. Even though Kevin now works mostly with men, he tries to keep a sort of '‘campness’ in his signature which is a big ‘fuck you’ to patriarchy and machism.

Upcoming projects

Kevin will be covering Berlin Pride on July 24, 2021. “I'm very exited about Berlin Pride, I find the city so inspiring and I’m hoping to take some great portraits!”. Kevin is also working on a book on the LGBTQI+ community and a few more collaborations, which will be posted on his website.
